So what's all the hubbub about having a television in your bedroom and why is it considered to be "bad" feng shui? First of all, I do not subscribe to the "good feng shui and bad feng shui" theory. But, I do believe you can create more happiness and success in your life by following a few basic feng shui principles.
So here's why having a television in your bedroom is considered a feng shui no-no. A television creates "active" energy regardless of which room it is in. This active energy is similar to having a mirror in your room (we'll discuss mirrors in another post) but for the bedroom it brings too much activity - the activity of other people and events via television programs, many of which are reality shows; more people in your bedroom. Most television programs are not what I would call tranquil, serene, or calming, which is the best energy for your bedroom if you want to create happiness and prosperity in your life.
Unfortunately, this active energy does not give you energy - it zaps your energy! It demands your attention and is constantly saying to you "watch me, look at me" kind of like a two year old! With a television in your bedroom demanding your attention you're never alone and the television serves as a distraction from your life. If you do have a television in your bedroom my suggestion would be to have put it in cabinet or armoire so you can close it when you're not watching it. This will allow you to quiet the active energy. Like putting the two year old down for a nap.
I admit, there are times I think I would love having a television in our bedroom especially with the great prices on televisions nowadays. And for those cold, snowy days where you just want to hang out in bed all day and watch great movies or snuggle in bed with your sweetie watching your favorite shows. But, I know if we did have a television in our bedroom it would drive me crazy hearing the news channel or Ice Truckers as I am trying to fall asleep! Too much noise! Too much stress wondering if those guys and gal are going to slide their 18 wheeler off the icy roads into a near death experience! And then I would be cranky and annoyed with my sweetie for wanting to watch his favorite programs!
See how subtly of how having a television in your bedroom can cause strife and annoyance in your relationship? Maybe that's why it's considered best not to have a television in your bedroom. Truly, the bedroom is to be reserved for rest, intimacy and healing. It's your private sanctuary. That's all good stuff that puts a smile on your face :)
TV or No TV in the bedroom? That's a personal choice. You can do either and you can still have a great life. As for me, even though I look at the flat screens every time I go Costco and think.."ooh..that one would be nice in our bedroom," I realize, I really don't want to change the energy of our bedroom by allowing television celebrities in our bedroom. Plus, we already have four televisions in other areas of our home so there are plenty to watch elsewhere!
